Unmasking the Lightworker: A Journey from Obligation to Choice

Sacred flame burning bright against black background symbolizing the lightworker's authentic journey within

A raw and honest exploration of spiritual growth, healing, and what it truly means to 'be the light' in today's world.

The Wake-Up Call: When Spirit Guides Challenge Your Growth

To quote Samuel L. Jackson, "Mother F****r!" This was my unfiltered response to my guides during a recent existential crisis when I questioned my choice of experiences in this life. Their response? A calm, "be the light." When I questioned it, they simply doubled down and repeated it.

Breaking Free from Traditional Spiritual Labels

After extensive work on understanding boundaries and co-dependency, the term "lightworker" makes me cringe. "Healer" does too. Here's why: I don't believe we do the work for others. I don't want to be anyone's savior. I simply want to share the tools that have worked for me and send you on your way. Not very warm and fuzzy, perhaps, but we are all powerful beings capable of healing our own journey.

The Inner Conflict: Traditional Lightworker vs. Personal Growth

When they told me to "be the light," it initially felt like backsliding on all the work I'd done to heal myself. It seemed to suggest that reprogramming others' limiting beliefs and shouldering their well-being was somehow my responsibility. I don't think of myself as someone with a "higher level of consciousnesses," I am just a soul having a human experience and following my interests.

Challenging Traditional Lightworker Definitions

There isn't a uniform definition of a lightworker. I encourage you to search "definition of a lightworker." Many sources speak about:

  • Being in service to others

  • Feeling a divine calling

  • Going out into the world to raise vibrations

This traditional view honestly feels cringey to me. It's often connected to the idea that it's a calling or "in your DNA." Eye roll. I don't think of myself as someone with a "higher level of consciousnesses." While I've always been fascinated by science and spirituality, studying how body and mind work, I NEVER felt a calling. My thought was simply, "this is fun and I enjoy sharing it with others." Oh and also (let's be real here,) "can I financially support myself doing this work?"

The Weight of Spiritual Leadership

The worship that religious and spiritual leaders receive makes my skin crawl. Even these revered figures aren't without fault. I have no desire to exist in that paradigm or carry such a heavy burden that no human should experience.

Finding Clarity: A New Definition of Light Work

After sitting quietly and waiting for clarity, the truth emerged. The message to "be the light" wasn't about external responsibility—it was about shining the light within. It's about doing the inner work. My role is to teach others about doing the work to shine the light within themselves and raise their own vibration. I can do this through:

  • Teaching the law of assumption

  • Encouraging people to examine their beliefs

  • Questioning societal and religious conditioning

  • Understanding who benefits from separation and limiting beliefs

The Universal Truth: We Are All Potential Lightworkers

Being a lightworker isn't a calling or a gift—it's a CHOICE that becomes a practice. It requires honest self-examination around:

  • Personal blind spots

  • Religious perspectives

  • Gender role assumptions

  • Racial beliefs and biases

The Journey of Self-Discovery

This internal work triggers many emotions, including grief and anger. But it's ultimately freeing, allowing us to shed shame and feelings of lack that others have benefited from us maintaining them.

Understanding Our Interconnectedness

If we truly are all one, containing the divine spark of God (or whatever name you give to that greater being/force), then harming any group harms the whole system. Like an organism where one failing organ affects the entire body, our collective well-being is interconnected.

Taking the First Steps: A Practical Guide

Start your journey by:

  1. Observing your thoughts about yourself

  2. Examining how you believe you and others should show up in the world

  3. Identifying judgments about yourself and others

  4. Tracing the origins of these beliefs

  5. Understanding who benefits from and who is harmed by these beliefs

Embracing Growth Without Shame

Remember: You're not a "bad" person for holding limiting beliefs—you're part of a system that doesn't serve your highest good. You're not alone in this. If you were, these beliefs wouldn't be so widespread in society.

Moving Forward Together

From one lightworker to another... you've got this. Let's step into the Age of Aquarius together.
